Jurassic Hour #23: Room At The Table

Nov 25

Things just keep getting better and better for this show. This is Pat “The Gameodactyl” Gann here, and I’m ready to self-promote like a mofo.

In this back-to-back, two-part, two-hour episode, the Gameosaurs cover a lot of ground. Thus, we have some extended show notes. Here we go!

First of all, the cold opening: spoiler alert, the milk stout pouring does not happen, and as a result, no one makes out with anyone else. Though most of us did go out for a hibachi dinner after the show.

The musical opener is from one of our favorite ska bands from our high school years, Five Iron Frenzy. They’re back on the scene with this Kickstarter, where they wanted to raise $30,000 to make a new album. They hit that goal in under an hour, and are now well over $100,000. You’ll want to get on board with that.

The first hour is a lengthy discussion regarding THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM, also known as the best game ever. It was so inspirational that our good friend, Pete’s reclusive roommate Pat Himes, came out to talk about it (though he admitted he’d “rather be playing it than talking about it”). We also have our pal, one of the Gameosaurus founders, Pete “Gamegnathus” Rambo on the show to talk about it. As for me (Pat Gann), I’ve barely touched the game, all I can speak to is the intro sequence and the brilliance of the graphics. Mr. Mergenthaler has some good insight regarding the nature of the game and its pedigree, though he himself hasn’t logged in nearly the hours that Himes and Rambo did.

So, yes, lots of Skyrim talk, as we promised earlier this week. We’ll do more SKYWARD SWORD, as well as SAINTS ROW: THE THIRD and other titles, next time we get together.

(On a related note, another great Skyrim discussion was posted on the RPGFan Random Encounter podcast. I gotta promote my ol’ stomping grounds.)

In hour two, I get into a bout of playful one-up-man-ship with Thomas Lipschultz, PR/localization at XSEED Games, to see who knows more about Nihon Falcom (hint: it’s not me). This section of the podcast has us talking at length about YS and THE LEGEND OF HEROES, though we also talk about some new titles: FISHING RESORT (Wii) and CORPSE PARTY (PSP), both released on November 22. We speak about the games as though they are coming out, because we recorded the show weeks ago. But now they’re out, and they’re $20 each, so you might want to check those out. Y’know, if you can find the time between all that Skyrim. But as they say, there’s always room at the table. Happy belated Thanksgiving.

With music from Five Iron Frenzy, Jeremy Soule and Falcom Sound Team jdk.

PS – As promised earlier in the show, here’s that classic LARP video with repeated LIGHTNING BOLT! and the girl clapping at the end.
