Jurassic Hour #15: Ugh, Poor People
May 12
We’re basically incapable of sticking to an agenda, which means another bulbous, freewheeling 100 minutes of BS about feelings and shitty exes, PORTAL 2 and Thor. With music from Atom and His Package, The Lonely Island and The Beastie Boys.
For those who want to play along, follow this link to Joe Bageant’s “Deerhunting With Jesus”, the book we plan to read for the show next month. Long story short, we’re probing the depths of our compassion for the rural poor. I took an informal, unscientific poll of the three of us (children of privilege all), and we agreed that poverty is yucky and boring to think about, but we’re working on these feelings.
And if you haven’t read all of the book by the time our next episode rolls out, don’t worry. I don’t think either of the Pats will have finished it, either.

I’m considering it a competition with PHimes to see who can read more of the book. I THINK it will be me… we’ll see! Maybe we’ll tie by both reading it fully?
In my defense, I did read all of the other books we did. It just took me til two weeks after each podcast.
Also, thx for the picture. People have got to stop randomly entrusting their children to me.
I went to Kentucky on a mission trip with Becca Lee and Chris Marx and some other people from my youth group. We helped out in Wheelright, deep in Appalachia, for a week. The place was sad, but the people didn’t seem too dissatisfied with their situation. Even if their houses were run down, they were happy with their ATVs and random dogs and satellite TV.
I liked the new segment.
Rambo — was that part of the SWAP (Sharing With Appalachian People) program? My wife also went on a mission trip to Kentucky, with this organization as its partner.
